The 2022 Mini Cooper SE electric car gets an unexpected range boost, to 114 miles of EPA-rated range, compared to 110 miles for the 2021 model.
Efficiency ratings increased as well. The 2022 model is rated at 110 MPGe combined and 119 MPGe city, up from the 2021 model’s 108 MPGe combined and 115 MPGe city ratings. However, highway-cycle efficiency remains unchanged, at 100 MPGe.
The range boost wasn’t suggested at the time we brought you aearlier in the year, and according to Mini spokesperson Andrew Cutler there’s a simple reason: A recent retest by the EPA, triggered by the refresh, resulted in better numbers.

The initial test had been conducted by BMW, so it’s no surprise they had been a bit conservative with the results. But the new results highlight what’s more than likely plenty of range for a second or third car in a big household.
This is the Cooper SE’s sophomore model year, but the gasoline Mini models it’s based on are somewhat older, so the SE gets updated styling to match them.
The carryover powertrain includes a 181-horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels, with a 32.6-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.
