Team Penske confirms Malukas signing for No. 12 IndyCar entry

The worst-kept secret in IndyCar has been confirmed by Team Penske, which has signed David Malukas for its No. 12 Chevrolet.

The 23-year-old Malukas joins Penske veterans Josef Newgarden, who signed with the team in 2017, owns 34 victories and has won a pair of championships and Indy 500s in the No. 2 Chevy, and Scott McLaughlin, who transitioned from the DJR Team Penske Supercars team as a three-time champion at the end of 2020 and has since won seven races in the No. 3 Chevy. Malukas replaces Will Power, who drove the No. 12 Chevy from 2009-25 and recently signed with Andretti Global to take over the No. 26 Honda formerly driven by Colton Herta.

“Racing for Team Penske is the goal for every young race car driver, and I am honored to be one that gets to live out that dream,” said Malukas. “Will Power is one of the legends of our sport and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet is one of the most-recognized cars on the grid. These are big shoes to fill, but I look at it as an opportunity because I know that it is one of the best teams in the paddock.”

Malukas arrives with a wave of momentum after spending 2025 in a Penske-engineered AJ Foyt Racing entry he drove to second place at the Indy 500 and 11th in the championship, splitting McLaughlin (10th) and Newgarden (12th).

In two seasons with Dale Coyne Racing from 2022-23, a partial season with Meyer Shank Racing in 2024, and the most recent with Foyt, Malukas has demonstrated immense but largely unrealized potential.

To date, he has earned three podiums from 61 starts. Producing his first pole positions and race wins should be a formality as the newest member of IndyCar’s most successful team.

“We are excited to add David Malukas as the next driver of the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet,” said team owner Roger Penske. “We feel that Team Penske will provide David everything needed to take the next step in his career, and we are confident that he will continue the great legacy of the Verizon Chevrolet.”
