NEOM McLaren announced Alex Dunne will serve as its reserve and development driver in Formula E this season, replacing Taylor Barnard following his graduation to the team’s race lineup.
Dunne takes on on the role as his position as part of McLaren’s driver development program, following in the footsteps of Ugo Ugochukwu who drove in the rookie test in Berlin last season, and Bianca Bustamante and Ella Lloyd who drove in the all-female test ahead of this season as McLaren juniors to link up with the Formula E team.
“I’m excited to be joining the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team as reserve and development Driver,” said Dunne. “Working with NEOM McLaren as part of my experience in the McLaren Driver Development program is an excellent opportunity to hone my skills. I’m looking forward to doing what I can to support the team and learn as much as possible.”
Dunne raced in FIA Formula 3 last year, taking a podium finish in the penultimate round of the season en route to 14th in the points. Prior to that, he was runner-up in the GB3 championship in 2023 with three wins, and in 2022 he ran three Formula 4 programs, winning the British title with 11 race victories. He finished second in the Italian championship after winning three times, while he won twice in the UAE championship, finishing that series sixth overall.
