Shane van Gisbergen will be a NASCAR Cup Series driver for the foreseeable future after sign ing a multiyear contract extension with Trackhouse Racing.
Van Gisbergen began his NASCAR career in 2023 with a victory in h is Cup Series debut on the Chicago street course, and has since won three more races in the series.
“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” van Gisbergen said. “Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023. That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin [Marks] took on me. The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn’t be happier.”
Van Gisbergen will make his first Cup Series postseason appearance when the playoffs begin next month. He is also leading his Rookie of the Year battle with Riley Herbst.
The 36-year-old New Zealander left behind a successful Australian Supercars career to compete in NASCAR. Van Gisbergen is a three-time champion in the Supercars series, and the fourth most successful driver in series history.
Trackhouse Racing, in a deal with Kaulig Racing, ran van Gisbergen in the Xfinity Series full-time in 2024 before he was moved into the Cup Series. van Gisbergen has four wins in 35 starts in the season.
“We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing,” Marks said. “What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing, and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
